Giveaways, Writing, Knitting
In other words, an update! I suppose I could break this up into a couple of different blogposts, but it’s summertime and everyone is busy, so I’ll try to keep this short and sweet.
I’m continuing my monthly giveaways. I really enjoy sending out boxes of goodies. These giveaways are open to those who receive my newsletter. Sometimes they are “grab bag” giveaways, where people enter to win a prize sight unseen. Sometimes it’s a specific prize or set of prizes. Last month’s giveaway was a grab bag. The lucky winner was Nichole from Michigan and this is what was inside her box: 2 full size paperbacks, a couple of short stories, earrings and a pearl ring, magnets, bookmarks, pens, and other swag from writers.
I have August’s giveaway ready to go. It will also be a grab bag, but one thing I know will be in it: This hand knit shawl/scarf. I’ve been working on it all summer, and now it is finished and ready to go around someone’s neck just in time for the cooler mornings ahead. See? My cat Merry stood guard over it while it dried. If you would like a chance to win this shawl plus other great prizes, you can sign up for my newsletter.
I am currently working on my contemporary novella for Paige Tyler’s Dallas Fire & Rescue Kindle World. I am LOVING Dusty and Isabel! It comes out in mid October. Isabel owns a yarn shop with her sister, and the shop colors are fuchsia and black. Dusty, in a desperate attempt to catch Isabel’s attention, recklessly signs up for her Learn To Knit class. In the first class the students learn to knit a dishcloth. Dusty swaggers in to class, confident that he can master knitting without any trouble. He slinks out, convinced that knitting was invented by demons out to drive humans crazy. In the second class, he knits this hat. I am considering writing the pattern up and including it at the end of the book. I’m not sure about that, though.
Do you think it would be appreciated by readers? Would most readers even care? Maybe it would be better to include a link to my website where I could post the pattern?
What are your thoughts about that? Please leave a comment, I would really like to know.
I hope your summer is going well. Only a few weeks until the kids are back in school. I come from a large family, and on the first day of school, my mom put out the flag. She said it should be a national holiday! LOL

Off To RAGT!
Every year for the past six years I have attended Lori Foster’s Reader & Author Get Together. It is a fairly small romance novel conference as these things go. Lori keeps it limited to only 500 attendees, 100 authors and 400 readers, and the focus is on readers. Maybe that’s why I love it so much. It’s not so big that shy little me feels overwhelmed, and I get to actually meet and spend time with readers. It is closed to the general public, but the book signings at 3pm-5pm on Friday and Saturday are open to everyone. If you are in the Cincinnati, OH area, stop by the Marriott in West Chester on Muhlhauser Road and say hello to me. I’m signing on Friday. I’d love to meet you!
We (we being me, my friend Jessica, and fellow LSB author Tina Holland) are leaving tomorrow morning at 7:00am and heading to Ohio. I’ll be mostly out of touch for the next few days, but I promise pictures when I get back.
Also, since I’m positively giddy with excitement over RAGT, I have reduced the price of Wolf’s Glory from $3.99 to $0.99. The price will go back up on Monday June 13, so if you don’t have it yet, this is a great time to pick it up. Don’t forget that the first book, Sleeping With the Wolf, is still FREE. And hey, if you like audio books, if you buy these in digital format on Amazon, they are only $1.99 each over on Audible. As my grandmother would say, such a deal!

Olivia’s Mate is Out!
Today is the Day! At last, Olivia’s Mate is out!
Olivia Stensrud, a beloved daughter of the Lakota Wolf Clan, lives a charmed life in a world recovering from the nuclear attacks seventy-five years earlier. When she is stolen by a feral cat-shifter who insists she’s his mate, the men of her clan track her down and take her back. Sent away to safety, Olivia finds it impossible to forget the handsome savage who lives according to nature’s law.
Kit is heartbroken. A mate is a rare thing for his kind to find. Her father promised to kill him if he ever came near Olivia again, but Kit can’t give up such a precious treasure. Determined to make himself a fit mate for a Daughter of the Wolf Clan, Kit goes to live with humans and learn their civilized ways.
Will the thin veneer of culture be enough to win her heart? Or will her menfolk drive him off before he even has a chance to court her?
Olivia’s Mate is the first book in a new spin off series called The Daughters of the Wolf Clan. (There may be a second series called Sons of the wolf Clan. Taye and Carla’s son, Colby, is just screaming for a mate of his own. As you’ll see in Olivia’s Mate, Colby needs to be whipped into shape before he can make a good husband. 😉 ) Olivia’s Mate is the story of Tracker and Tami’s daughter. Remember them? They were the hero and heroine from Wolf Tracker) They were two of my favorite characters. I enjoyed writing them again, and seeing some of the other couples from the After the Crash series.
If you’d like to read Olivia and Kit’s story, you can follow the appropriate link below. 🙂

Do You Want To Win?
I’m doing a Mystery Giveaway from my Newsletter this weekend!
I’m one of those people who just can’t resist a grab bag. You know, those plain paper bags that a store has stuffed with merchandise that hasn’t sold. You never know what you’ll get! My local needlework store does that. They put in patterns, a pack of needles that someone opened and stole one of the needles from, a few skeins of floss, etc, and sell the whole thing for a dollar. Most of it is crap, but it’s so much fun to open the bag and see what’s in it.
I promise this giveaway isn’t a bunch of crap! I put several items into this bubble envelope and will mail it to the winner on Monday after work. What’s in it? A grab bag is supposed to be secret, but I’ll give you some hints. There are 2 paranormal romance paperback books in it, one by me, and one by a writer I admire. There is a small knitted item (knitted by moi), a piece of jewelry, some magnets, and a bunch of swag.
The newsletter will go out tomorrow (Friday) so if you haven’t signed up for my newsletter, you still have time! The sign up is over there on the right on side. I will mail the package to anywhere in the world, so if you live across the pond or down under, you can have this lovely assortment of goodies.
Good luck!
News, Updates, Contests!
Looking through my blog makes me realize about the only posts I make these days are my Tuesday Teasers. That’s kind of sad. I’ve had a few people email me or contact me on Facebook to ask when Olivia’s Mate is coming out. Clearly, I need to update my website! Here is a little bit of catch up.
NEWS:
Sky from Wolf’s Princess has been nominated for Best Hero in the Love Romances Café Awards!
This is so exciting for me. Sky was a bit difficult for me to write. He started out so arrogant that I wondered why Rose was willing to give him a chance. But as the story went on he became more and more like the hero I wanted him to be. He’s up against some really fantastic heroes, so I don’t expect him to win, but it is a huge honor even to be nominated.
WRITING UPDATES:
I am very close to being finished with the rough draft of Olivia’s Mate. My goal is to have it release by April 29, 2016. It’s possible it will be out before that, but between the overtime and the pneumonia , writing time is in short supply. But today and tomorrow I have designated as Writing Days. I would love to get the last chapter written, and then I will have the rough draft done. Only THREE more scenes to write!
I will soon beginning work on Brave Hearts, part of Paige Tyler’s Dallas Fire & Rescue Kindle World. The hero is Dustin Jesse Wolfe, great uncle of Taye and the rest of the Wolf Clan. He’s an adrenalin junky who takes his job seriously but loves to party. The heroine is Ysabel Alicia Ybarra, an Iraq vet who lost her lower leg in the war. She’s a serious, hard working small business owner who thinks her prosthetic leg makes her unattractive to gorgeous men like Dusty. That one has to be completely ready to go by October 1 for an October 12 release.
CONTESTS:
I have decided to have monthly contests in my Newsletter. The prizes will range from downloads of ebooks to paperbacks to gift cards for Amazon, Starbucks, etc, to handmade jewelry. I have one running right now. If you’d like to be able to enter, there’s a sign up from on the right to my newsletter. I will send out another entry form on Sunday night. Contest closes on Monday night. (I was going to close it on Sunday night, but that’s the premiere of the Rick & Daryl show–I mean, The Walking Dead)
I hope everyone has lots of good books to read. I’m off now to get Olivia and Kit hitched. It’s going to be quite the event. I think Tracker might shed a tear. A very small and quiet tear. Imagine all the wolf dads at the ceremony looking at their own daughters and wondering how soon they’ll find a man of their own.
Holiday Book Sale!
December is such a busy time of the year. There is decorating the house, shopping for presents, parties to go to, writing out cards, baking, cleaning for company, attending school programs, going to church functions, wrapping presents, standing in line at the post office… Sometimes I just want to scream, “Could I please have one lousy evening for myself?!!!”
And it’s expensive. Presents, fancy food, and extra tips for the postal worker, the hairdresser, the newspaper carrier really strain my budget. I feel guilty spending money on myself when there are still presents to buy. Even a $6.99 book makes me count my pennies. Maybe you feel the same. But don’t you deserve to spend a little time and money on yourself?
This sale is for you. Sleeping With the Wolf is FREE, and the next book in the series has been reduced to $2.99. Other books are $0.99! So take that evening for yourself, snuggle under an afghan and read! Heck, who says you have to save ALL your cookies for Christmas?
Sleeping With the Wolf FREE
Wolf’s Glory $2.99
Wolf’s Oath $0.99
Wolf’s Lady $0.99
Sales goes until the end of December.
Happy Reading!
Tuesday Teaser 12/1/15: Sleeping With the Wolf
This will be the last teaser from Taye and Carla. I hope to get at least a little written in Olivia’s Mate this coming weekend, so next Tuesday we’ll finally get back to poor Kit and Olivia. That’s the plan at least. 🙂
I realize from a couple of comments on Facebook that I haven’t made the re-issue thing clear. So let me take a minute to tell you what I have planned. I have requested the rights to Sleeping With the Wolf and Wolf’s Glory back from the publisher. I plan to publish them myself.
This is NOT because I don’t like the publisher, I absolutely LOVE Liquid Silver Books. The are professional and pay on time. If an unpublished romance author asked me where she should submit I would recommend Liquid Silver right off.
Anyway, I should receive the rights back on December 1st. Of course I can’t self publish them until all the various online retailers remove them from their shelves, so they may not be out until a few days or maybe a week later. I plan to make Sleeping With the Wolf, Book 1 of the After the Crash series, free. Amazon doesn’t allow books to be started off at free, so it will be $0.99 there until it is price matched. That could be anywhere from a few hours to a few weeks. I will also send it out in epub and mobi formats in my DECEMBER NEWSLETTER a few days before I load it up. Wolf’s Glory will retail for $3.99.
I hope that clears up any confusion. My apologies for not making it plain sooner. I promise, anyone who wants to read the little additions will be able to do so without spending money. Really, it’s unfair to expect someone to spend money for something they already have. Especially around the holidays!
The stranger eyed Carla with interest. “This is your mate?”
Taye squeezed her shoulder. “Yes, this is Carla,” he said proudly. “Sweetheart, this is my cousin Jumping Stag from the Clan. We call him Stag.”
Carla nodded at the stranger, and was surprised by his eyes. They were vibrant blue in his sun-browned face, even brighter than Sky’s eyes. He smiled, and Carla saw the family resemblance. His teeth were glowingly white, and the same dimple that Taye hid beside his mouth flashed briefly. She thought he might be about the same age as Taye. “Nice to meet you.”
“You were on the airplane too?” Stag asked. “You’re from the Times Before?”
Carla agreed that she was.
“I came because your advice is needed. And Taye’s. You are happy with him. I can smell it. You care for him. You share your body with him.”
“Um, yes,” Carla said, embarrassed. With these wolves and their noses she couldn’t lie.
“My mate is from your world. Her name is Sherry. She is beautiful, with skin like that coffee the traders bring, but so skinny and her legs were broken…” He trailed off and took a deep breath. “She says I’m unnatural. A monster. She calls me a liar. No one can make her happy. Please tell me what I can do to make her love me.”
Carla sank into her new chair. “You’re a wolf, right? Wolf-born, I mean. Has she seen you change?”
“Yes.” Stag dropped to his haunches in front of her. Taye settled onto the arm of her chair and put his arm around her shoulders. “We’ve all told the woman that I will be a good husband. I can provide for her and our pups.”
“Pups? Did you call her future children pups?”
Stag’s handsome face showed surprise at her accusing tone. “I think so,” he said cautiously.
“Good grief.” Carla huffed out a sigh. “Back in the Times Before we didn’t have wolves, only movies—stories about men who turn into wolves and eat people. Horror movies.” Carla was aware of the whole Pack listening. “She’s probably scared. You have to think of it from her side. The plane she was riding in crashed. That is pretty scary right there. Now she has a stranger—who turns into a wolf—telling her she belongs to him and he wants her to have his pups. Can you understand why’d she be scared?”
Stag sighed and looked at Taye. “How did you get your mate to accept you so quickly?”
Taye caressed Carla’s shoulder. “I was lucky. It took my parents three years, remember? I promised Carla that I wouldn’t demand sex until she was sure she wanted it.” He looked down at Carla with an inquiring look on his face. “What did I do, sweetheart, to convince you?”
“Well … You did so many nice things for me. The hot water, and the stove, and the guitar…” Carla had been thinking about this for a while and struggled to put her feelings into words. “You showed me you cared. Words are nice, but they say actions speak louder than words, and it’s true. I knew I could never go back to the Times Before. I had to make a new life here. You made me feel safe. I didn’t even know that until Pete challenged you. I was scared of you at first. I was afraid you would rape me, but you didn’t. Pete would have. And you treated me like an equal. Mostly. I felt like you respected me.” She fiddled with the end of her braid, frowning. “Almost right away you proved you cared about my feelings. You made me believe I was important to you.”
Taye lifted her hand to press a kiss to her palm. “You are important to me. At first it was because my wolf had chosen you to be my mate. I would have felt like that whoever my mate was. It was natural to want to protect you and make sure you were comfortable. I began to admire you when you took the man who tried to steal you down with a kick. I liked that you could take care of yourself. Liking and admiration and respect are a good beginning for a couple starting a life together. Now it’s more than just liking. I love how generous you are to people. You share your music with joy, like you have with the Pack and you will with Mr. Gray and his family tomorrow. And you listen to me when I talk about things that are important to me like my parents, and my new cousin. I love the way you decide what is right and do it, even when I might not like it, like when you insisted on accepting the guitar as a gift. I love you because you make me happy to see you.” He kissed her temple tenderly.
Carla forced her tears back. Taye loved her. It was more than just lust for him. She put her hand over the arm he had over her shoulders and squeezed gently. “We were lucky,” she told Stag, who was watching them wistfully. “I think it will take more time for you. Be patient with Sherry. Maybe treat her like a sister for a while until she gets used to you. And,” Carla paused to clear her throat. “It might be good to wear clothes around her. In the Times Before people didn’t run around without clothes on. It makes us uncomfortable.”
Stag glanced around the room full of naked men.
“I’m getting used to it now. But at first … It was pretty hard.”
“The Grandmother requires clothing in camp,” Stag told her. If you don’t like it, order the Pack to wear clothes.”
Carla blinked and turned to look up at Taye. “I can do that?”
“Sure. You’re the Lupa.”
She looked out at the Pack gathered around. “From now on, wear clothes.”
There was a general groan. “Always?” said Jelly plaintively.
She considered. “No, only when you’re inside the den.”
“That’s not so bad,” said another man with relief.
Stag looked at Taye. “Will you and your mate come to the Clan so the women from the Times Before can see that they can be happy with a wolf?”
Taye nodded. “In a few weeks, maybe. Aren’t Shadow and Glory happy together?”
“They seemed to be, the first day. Then Glory found out she couldn’t go home, and she went crazy. Poor Shadow is begging her to love him again, but she only punches him and tells him to drop dead.”
Taye coughed to cover a laugh. His cousin was fifty pounds heavier than he, and five inches taller, and so fierce that his reputation was known for hundreds of miles in all directions. The mental image of a woman with pink hair defying his ferocious cousin was amusing.
